Frequently asked questions
Common buyer questions about sanctions screening, email validation, PII redaction, website checks, SEC data, dependency checks, job feeds and MCP tools, answered from each tool's own documentation. Prices are per 1,000 results in US dollars, as listed on the Apify Store and checked on 2026-10-24. Start fees are shown in footnotes.
1. Sanctions and vendor screening
Which sanctions lists does a vendor or counterparty name check cover?
The OFAC Sanctions Screening (EU, UK, UN) Name Check Actor checks people and company names against five public lists: OFAC SDN and OFAC Consolidated (US), the EU Consolidated Financial Sanctions List, the UK Sanctions List and the UN Security Council Consolidated List. The lists are downloaded from the official sources. A date of birth narrows the matches; a country flags matches and narrows them only if excludeNonMatchingCountry is on. https://apify.com/fairquery/sanctions-watchlist-screener
How does fuzzy name matching handle spelling variants, and can it produce false positives?
Names are normalised (diacritics, case, punctuation, legal suffixes such as LLC or GmbH, honorifics) and compared token by token with Jaro-Winkler, so word order, extra middle names and spelling variants can still match. Each potential match gets a 0–100 score; the default minimum score is 85 and can be changed. Fuzzy matching can return false positives and miss true matches, so every potential match should be reviewed against the official source.
How current are the lists used in a screen?
A run reuses a copy of the lists cached in your own Apify account only while it is younger than listCacheMaxAgeHours (default 6 hours, maximum 12); otherwise the lists are downloaded again. Every row shows the date each source gives for its list (for OFAC, the file's last-modified time) and when it was downloaded, and a list that fails to download is reported as unavailable rather than served stale.
What does it cost to screen 1,000 supplier or vendor names?
Per 1,000 names screened: $3.00 on the Apify Free plan, $2.70 on Starter, $2.40 on Scale and $2.10 on Business (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Error rows are never charged. If only some lists load, names are still charged and each row names the missing lists. If no list can be downloaded, no names are charged, but the start fee still applies.
¹ Start fee: $7.00 per 1,000 runs at the default 512 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), charged once per run and not included in the per-name prices.
Does it check PEP lists, adverse media or company ownership?
No. It screens the names you submit against the five sanctions lists above. PEP lists and adverse media are not among its sources, and it does not look up who owns or controls a company.
Is an automated name screen enough to meet sanctions compliance obligations?
No. The sanctions screener is a screening aid, not a compliance programme, a certified screening service or legal advice. It fuzzy-matches the names you submit against five public lists (OFAC SDN, OFAC Consolidated, EU, UK and UN) and nothing else: it does not check other lists, politically exposed persons, adverse media or who owns or controls a company, and a company owned by a listed person may not be named on any list. A run can use list copies downloaded up to 12 hours earlier (6 by default), and an official list can change at any time. If some lists can't be downloaded, the run continues with the rest and each row names the missing ones under lists_unavailable; if none can be downloaded, the run stops with an error and screens no names. Fuzzy matching can flag the wrong person and miss a real match, so a person should review every potential match against the official source, and a "no match" result is not a clearance. You remain responsible for your own sanctions compliance, including any OFAC obligations that apply to you. Get legal advice on what those obligations are.
2. Email validation
Can an email list be validated without sending any email?
Yes. The Bulk Email Validator sends no email and does no SMTP probing. For each address it checks syntax, DNS/MX and null MX, disposable domains (a bundled list of 9,800+), role accounts such as info@, free webmail, typos such as gamil.com, the mail provider and SPF/DMARC. Each address gets a valid, risky, invalid or unknown verdict, reason codes and a 0–100 risk score. https://apify.com/fairquery/email-validator-mx-disposable
Does a "valid" result confirm that the mailbox exists?
No. Valid means the address is well formed, the domain can receive mail and no risk flags fired. Confirming a specific mailbox needs an SMTP conversation, which this Actor does not do. For mailbox-level results you can add your own MillionVerifier API key (optional).
What does it cost to validate 1,000 email addresses?
Per 1,000 emails checked: $0.79 on the Apify Free plan, $0.75 on Starter, $0.69 on Scale and $0.59 on Business (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Optional mailbox checks with your own MillionVerifier key are $0.19 per 1,000 on every plan. Error rows and skipped duplicates are never charged.
¹ Start fee: $0.05 per 1,000 runs at the default 128 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), not included in the per-email prices.
3. PII and secret redaction
Which kinds of PII and secrets can be found before text is sent to an LLM?
The PII Redaction & Secret Scanner detects emails, phone numbers, SSNs, credit card numbers (Luhn-checked), IBANs, UK National Insurance numbers and IP addresses, optional names and street addresses, and 18 secret types such as AWS, GitHub, Stripe, OpenAI and Anthropic keys. Input can be text, or URLs of HTML pages or PDFs; pasted text is scanned as-is. Each document gets a risk level and a list of findings with offsets and masked previews. https://apify.com/fairquery/llm-data-guard-pii-secrets
Can redacted values be put back into the model's answer?
Yes. In redact mode you choose a placeholder, mask or hash style. Placeholders are reversible: keep the placeholder map (returnPlaceholderMap) and use restore mode to put the original values back into the model's answer.
What does PII redaction cost per 1,000 documents?
Per 1,000 documents processed: $1.50 on the Apify Free plan, $1.35 on Starter, $1.20 on Scale and $0.99 on Business, plus $0.20 per 1,000 findings on every plan (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Error rows are never charged.
¹ Start fee: $0.05 per 1,000 runs at the default 512 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), not included in the prices above.
Does the PII tool store or log the documents it processes?
It is designed not to log document content: the Actor's own log lines record the number of documents, the mode and style, and error notices, not document text. It does store results. Each run's dataset in your Apify account holds the findings with masked previews (which keep a few characters, such as the last 4 digits of a card number), any document URLs you gave it and, in redact mode, the redacted text. Original values are stored there too if you turn on includeFindingValues, or returnPlaceholderMap when redacting with the placeholder style, and in restore mode the output is your text with the original values put back. Redaction can miss sensitive data, and anything it misses stays in the redacted text. By default (purgeInputAfterRun) the Actor deletes the run's INPUT record when the run finishes. This is best effort: if the deletion fails, the Actor only logs a warning, and it doesn't happen at all if the run crashes, times out or is aborted first. Apify, which runs the Actor in your account, keeps the run, its log and its storages under your Apify plan's retention (see "Where is run data stored, and for how long?"). Delete the run's data when you no longer need it.
4. Website and SEO intelligence
What does a website check return, including AI crawler rules and llms.txt?
The Tech Stack Detector, SEO & llms.txt Checker returns one row per site: the tech stack (CMS, framework, analytics, chat, payments, CDN, hosting), title, meta description, Open Graph and JSON-LD, an SEO issue list with a 0–100 score, robots.txt rules for AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, CCBot and more), the XML sitemap, llms.txt and llms-full.txt, security headers and a 0–100 AI-readiness score. It uses plain HTTP with no browser and checks the page you give it, not the whole site. https://apify.com/fairquery/website-tech-seo-ai-readiness
What does it cost to check 1,000 websites?
Per 1,000 sites checked: $1.50 on the Apify Free plan, $1.35 on Starter, $1.20 on Scale and $1.00 on Business (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Sites that can't be fetched are never charged.
¹ Start fee: $0.05 per 1,000 runs at the default 256 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), not included in the per-site prices.
5. SEC EDGAR data
What SEC EDGAR data can be pulled for a company, and are stock prices included?
Look up a company by ticker, CIK or name to get recent 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings, XBRL financial facts (by default Assets, NetIncomeLoss, EarningsPerShareDiluted and Revenues) and optional text excerpts; the mode can be filings, facts or both. It reads only the SEC's own public endpoints (sec.gov, data.sec.gov) within the SEC's fair-access limit. It does not return stock prices or real-time quotes. https://apify.com/fairquery/edgar-company-facts-filings
What does EDGAR data cost per 1,000 companies?
Per 1,000 companies resolved: $1.50 on the Apify Free plan, $1.35 on Starter, $1.20 on Scale and $1.05 on Business. On every plan, filings are $1.00 per 1,000, financial facts $0.20 per 1,000 and text excerpts $2.00 per 1,000 (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Error rows are not charged.
¹ Start fee: $0.05 per 1,000 runs at the default 256 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), not included in the prices above.
6. OSV dependency checks
Which package ecosystems and manifest files can be checked for known vulnerabilities?
The OSV Vulnerability Scanner checks packages, or a pasted package.json, package-lock.json, requirements.txt or go.mod, against the OSV.dev database across npm, PyPI, Go, Maven, crates.io and other OSV ecosystems. Rows include CVE and GHSA IDs, CVSS, severity and affected and fixed versions; minSeverity and includeUnknownSeverity filter the vulnerability rows. It doesn't fix or upgrade packages and doesn't scan your code, containers or licenses. Data comes from OSV.dev with no warranty of completeness. https://apify.com/fairquery/osv-dependency-vulnerability-check
What does a dependency check cost?
Per 1,000 packages checked: $0.50 on the Apify Free plan, $0.45 on Starter, $0.40 on Scale and $0.35 on Business. Per 1,000 vulnerabilities found: $1.50 Free, $1.35 Starter, $1.20 Scale and $1.00 Business (Apify Store, checked 2026-10-24)¹. Package rows are always charged, including when minSeverity filters out vulnerability rows. Error and warning rows are never charged.
¹ Start fee: $0.05 per 1,000 runs at the default 128 MB memory (Apify's apify-actor-start event), not included in the prices above.
7. Jobs feed
Which job boards does the jobs feed read, and does it scrape LinkedIn?
The Company Jobs Feed collects jobs only from the official public job-board APIs of Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby, plus a Personio account's XML feed, a Pinpoint company subdomain's public postings feed or a Gem job board's public Job Board API when you name that account, subdomain or board, with no login, proxies or browser. You can give board slugs, or company names or domains for careers-page discovery of Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby boards; Personio, Pinpoint and Gem boards are never discovered. It does not collect listings from LinkedIn, Indeed or Glassdoor, and SmartRecruiters, Workday, Workable, Recruitee and Rippling are not supported. The free jobs tools are in @fairquery/company-jobs-feed-mcp on npm and on the hosted MCP server. https://www.npmjs.com/package/@fairquery/company-jobs-feed-mcp
Can it return only jobs that are new since the last run?
Not at the moment. The free jobs tools return the jobs published on a board right now and keep no history between calls, so there is no new-since-last-run option. jobs_get_board can filter one board by title, location, country, remote and posting date.
What does the jobs feed cost per 1,000 jobs?
Nothing today. jobs_get_board, jobs_get_job, jobs_find_board, jobs_check_open, jobs_list_seed_boards and jobs_search_by_location are free in @fairquery/company-jobs-feed-mcp and on the hosted MCP server, with no account or token. The multi-company search, jobs_search_companies, is temporarily offline: it returns a coming-soon message, starts no Apify run and bills nothing.
8. MCP servers for AI agents
How can an AI agent call these tools over MCP?
Two ways. The Actors can be called through Apify MCP (server address mcp.apify.com; docs: https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/mcp) by Actor name, for example fairquery/sanctions-watchlist-screener. Or a Fairquery MCP server can run locally: npx -y @fairquery/agent-trust-mcp covers PII redaction, email checks, sanctions screening and OSV lookups, and npx -y @fairquery/company-jobs-feed-mcp covers the jobs feed. A third option is the hosted MCP server at https://mcp.getfairquery.com/mcp: free tools there run on our server, not on your machine, and the text you send leaves your machine (see the try page and the Privacy Notice).
Do the MCP servers need an Apify account or token?
Only for paid tools. In @fairquery/agent-trust-mcp, the free tools need no token or account and run on your machine (the OSV lookup tools query api.osv.dev). Paid tools call the public Fairquery Actors with your own APIFY_TOKEN, and runs are billed to your Apify account at the Actor prices. In @fairquery/company-jobs-feed-mcp, jobs_get_board, jobs_get_job, jobs_find_board, jobs_check_open, jobs_list_seed_boards and jobs_search_by_location are free, and jobs_search_companies is temporarily offline and not billed. The agent-trust server requires Node.js 20 or later. That answer is about the npm servers. On the hosted MCP server, free tools run on our server rather than on your machine.
9. General: pricing, billing, data, accuracy and support
How does billing work for tools sold on the Apify Store?
You pay through your Apify account. These Actors use Apify's pay-per-event model; in Apify's words, "you pay for specific events the Actor creator defines, such as generating a single result or starting the Actor" (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/running/actors-in-store, checked 2026-10-24). On the Apify pricing page (https://apify.com/pricing, checked 2026-10-24), the Free plan card reads "$5 to spend in Apify Store or on your own Actors" and "No Apify Store discount", and the plan comparison lists "Prepaid usage to spend in Apify Store or on platform usage" as "$5 / month" for Free. Starter ($19 / month), Scale ($199 / month) and Business ($999 / month) come with the "Bronze", "Silver" and "Gold Apify Store discount", which is why prices differ by plan.
Can spending be capped per run?
Yes. Apify's docs say: "When starting a run, you can define a maximum charge limit. The Actor terminates gracefully when it reaches that limit - and even if it does not stop immediately, you are never charged for produced events over the defined limit." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/running/actors-in-store, checked 2026-10-24). Run costs appear in the Historical usage tab of the Billing section in Apify Console.
What is the start fee shown in the footnotes?
It is Apify's apify-actor-start event, charged per run and separate from the per-result prices. Apify's pay-per-event docs say: "Up to and including 1 GB of RAM, the event is charged once. Then, it's charged once for each extra GB of memory." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/publishing/monetize/pay-per-event, checked 2026-10-24).
Where does the data come from, and is accuracy guaranteed?
Each tool reads public sources: sanctions lists from OFAC, the European Commission, the UK FCDO and the UN; DNS records for email checks (plus MillionVerifier only if you add your own key); the page you submit for website checks; sec.gov and data.sec.gov for EDGAR; OSV.dev for vulnerabilities; and employers' public Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby boards, plus Personio, Pinpoint or Gem boards you name, for jobs. PII detection runs on the documents you provide. No accuracy rate is published for any of the tools, and results should be checked against the original source before acting on them.
Where can support questions go?
Questions about the tools: info@getfairquery.com. For charges, Apify's docs say: "If charges seem incorrect, contact the Actor author or the Apify support team. You can also open an issue directly on the Actor's detail page in Apify Console." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/running/actors-in-store, checked 2026-10-24).
Is Apify platform usage (compute) charged on top of the event prices?
Not for runs of these Actors. Apify's monetization docs, written for Actor authors, say: "For pay-per-event Actors, Apify deducts platform usage costs from your payout." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/publishing/monetize, checked 2026-10-24). An author can switch on a "Pay per event + usage" option, and then "users pay for both the defined events and the underlying platform usage" (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/publishing/monetize/pay-per-event, checked 2026-10-24); that option is off for these Actors on their live Apify Store pages (checked 2026-10-24). Apify also notes: "After a run finishes, any interactions with the dataset - such as reading or writing additional data - incur standard platform usage costs." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/actors/running/actors-in-store, checked 2026-10-24).
Where is run data stored, and for how long?
In your own Apify account. The Actors run on Apify, and each run's input, log and default storages (the results dataset and key-value store) are kept in your account under your Apify plan's data retention, so how long they last depends on your plan and settings. Apify's storage documentation says: "Free plan: Your 10 most recent runs are retained for 4 months." and "Paid plans: All data (including your 10 most recent runs) follows your plan's retention period, which you can configure in your billing settings." Storages you name are different: "Named storages: Always exempt from deletion regardless of retention periods." (https://docs.apify.com/platform/storage/usage, checked 2026-10-24). The sanctions screener keeps one named store in your account, fairquery-sanctions-list-cache, holding the downloaded public lists and their dates, not the names you screen. It stays until you delete it, and a run replaces a list there whenever it downloads a fresh copy that contains entries (with listCacheMaxAgeHours set to 0, the Actor neither reads nor writes it). The names you screen are in that run's input and results, which follow normal run retention. Fairquery's code doesn't send your inputs or results to Fairquery, and the Actors run with Apify's limited permissions. Our Privacy Notice explains the limited information Apify may share with us. You can delete runs and storages at any time in Apify Console or through the API.
